The international conference will be held in Astana on June 5, 2018 as part of the 20th anniversary celebrations, which mark Astana's creation as the nation's capital. The conference will primarily focus on Astana's political and diplomatic importance to Kazakhstan and the wider Central Asian region.
The conference will bring together Franco Frattini, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, former Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Muratbek Imanaliev, former Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Ramzi Ezzeldin Ramzi, United Nations Deputy Special Envoy for Syria, as well as representatives of international organizations, parliamentarians, experts in the field of international security, finance, sustainable development, among others.
Guests will hear from leading figures who have personally supported and contributed to the formation of Astana as a centre of international politics. The conference will also offer an opportunity to discuss the role of dialogue and mediation at regional and global levels in dealing with economic, development and security challenges.
In just twenty years, Kazakhstan's capital has developed into a leading financial, economic and business hub in Central Asia. Each year greater numbers of international firms establish a base in Astana where they share their international experiences, discuss cooperation, and promote global innovation throughout the region.
The conference will also provide an opportunity to discuss Astana as a preeminent financial center in Eurasia. Themes will include the role of investments and local capital markets in creating a sustainable environment, smart technologies and the development of productive human capital.
Building on the city's successful hosting of EXPO 2017, which focused on the theme of Future Energy, Astana is now aiming to position itself as a regional hub for sustainable development and digitisation. It is working to become a better city for living, doing business and hosting leading international events.
In order to achieve this, conference participants will examine the successes of other international cities, review lessons learned, and analyse global best practice in the development of 'smart' cities.
The accreditation period is June 4, 2018, until 12:00 pm Astana time.
