Diplomatic Mission of Venezuela was opened in Astana in 2012.

The meeting between President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro in Astana on September 10, 2017 on the margins of the first Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on Science and Technology provided significant contribution to the development of Kazakhstan-Venezuelan dialogue. In recent years Minister of Foreign Affairs of Venezuela Delcy Rodrigues and Minister of Petroleum and Mining of Venezuela Asdrubal Chavez visited Astana (January 16, 2015 ). Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Venezuela Felix Placencia visited Astana on December 20, 2016.
Development of cooperation was facilitated by the organization of the International Specialized Exhibition Astana EXPO 2017, where Venezuela was represented by a national pavilion. Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Venezuela Ramon Gordils and Felix Placencia visited Kazakhstan during the EXPO.
The legal framework of bilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and Venezuela includes documents on political consultations and others.
In January – November 2017, bilateral goods turnover reached 43.2 thousand US dollars, including 31.7 thousand in export and 11.5 thousand in import.
