Diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Argentine were established on June 25, 1993.
Concurrent Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Argentine (with residence in Brasilia) is Kairat Sarzhanov (since 2016).
Bilateral cooperation between the two countries includes contacts at the highest and high levels. President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev met President of Argentine Mauricio Macri at the G20 Summit in Hangzhou (September 4, 2016, China). Contacts at the high political level include the visits of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Erlan Idrissov to Buenos Aires (October 1, 2013), Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship Hector Timerman to Astana (May 29-30, 2014) and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Yerzhan Ashikbayev to Buenos-Aires (May 4, 2017), during which he took part in the consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan and Argentine.
Development of cooperation was facilitated by the organization of the International Specialized Exhibition Astana EXPO 2017, where Argentine was represented by a national pavilion. Minister of Media and Public Content of Argentine Hernan Lombardi and Minister of Science, Technology and Innovative Production of Argentine Lino Baranao visited Kazakhstan during the EXPO.
The legal framework of bilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and Argentine includes documents in the sphere of information and communications, political dialogue, visa matters and other areas.
In January – November 2017, bilateral trade reached 34.7 million US dollars, including 5.5 million in export and 29.2 million in import.
With the assistance of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Federative Republic of Brazil, the first ever Kazakh Cultural Centre and the only one in South America was opened in November 2014 in Rosario (Santa Fe Province, Argentina).
