Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and Republic of Moldova were established on July 27, 1992.
The Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Ukraine and concurrently in the Republic of Moldova was opened in December 1994.
The General Consulate of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Chisinau was opened on November 21, 2014.
Since 2017 Samat Ordabayev is Ambassador of Kazakhstan in Moldova.
Since November 28, 2016 Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova in the Russian Federation with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Kazakhstan is Dumitru Braghis.
The President of the Republic of Moldova P.Luchinsky made an official visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan in September 1999.
The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev made an official visit to the Republic of Moldova in September 2003.
On October 2002, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan I.Tasmagambetov carried out an official visit to Moldova.
On March 31 - April 1, 2010, there was a visit of the State Secretary – Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan K. Saudabayev to Chisinau and Tiraspol (Transnistria), as a part of a tour of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office on Eastern European countries. During the visit, K. Saudabayev has conducted negotiations with the leadership of the Republic of Moldova and Transnistria to discuss the topical problems of the OSCE agenda, as well as issues regarding the Transnistrian conflict resolution.
Despite the small number of visits, the parties met on several occasions in the framework of the summits of international organizations.
During the meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of Government on May 29, 2015 in Borabae there was a bilateral meeting of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Massimov and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova K.Gaburich.
During the meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of Government (Bishkek, June 7, 2016) the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Massimov had a conversation with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova P.Filip.
The sustained contact is maintained between the foreign ministries. Mutual understanding and similarity of their approaches to key international issues are the main feature of the Kazakh-Moldovan political dialogue.
The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan and Moldova met in September 2014 in the margins of the 69th UN General Assembly to discuss the issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
The main areas of bilateral economic cooperation are discussed in the framework of the Intergovernmental Kazakh-Moldovan Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, the 5th session of which was in Chisinau on July 22-23, 2015. During the meeting, the issues of bilateral collaboration in the spheres of investments, business, informatization, industry, transport, agroindustrial complex, as well as in the area of wine production.
The trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Moldova for 2015 amounted to 89,47 million USD, in January-October 2016 – 22,3 million USD.
