On December 11-14, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Canada with concurrent accreditation to Cuba Akylbek Kamaldinov visited Havana where he met with Rosa Teresa Rodriguez Lauzurique, Director of International Relations of the Ministry of Culture of Cuba.
At the meeting the sides discussed the installation of a bust monument to the Hero of the Soviet Union and National Hero of Kazakhstan Bauyrzhan Momyshuly. Cuban sculptor Tomas Lara, who attended the meeting, said it was a great honour and responsibility to work on this project. The monument will be installed in the Calzada park in the historical centre Vedado in central Havana.
At the end of the meeting the sides signed a memorandum stipulating the details of the agreement to set up a bust of Bauyrzhan Momyshuly in the capital of Cuba. In one of his interviews Fidel Castro mentioned that he the first hero of the World War II that comes to his mind is a character of the book “Volokolamsk Highway" by Aleksander Bek - Bauyrzhan Momyshuly.
During the meeting, the sides also discussed cultural cooperation in field of opera and circus arts, as well as the prospects of establishing cooperation between Kazakh National Academy of Choreography and National School of Ballet of Cuba.
