Deputy Foreign Minister Yerzhan Ashikbayev noted that the program of activities of UN Women in Kazakhstan was consistent with the priorities of the Government, the UN Partnership Framework for Development and the 2030 Agenda.
The Government of Kazakhstan has expressed its belief that it is important to continue constructive engagement with the UN Women Country Office in Nur-Sultan, as part of a wider initiative to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women.
“I am pleased that this event took place against the backdrop of increased attention of the Government of Kazakhstan to issues of gender equality and the empowerment of women in the country. This autumn, Kazakhstan will present its fifth periodic report on the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women at the UN Committee in Geneva, and will also take part in regional consultations on the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and the Beijing+25 Platform for Action. Today's event once again proves the commitment of the Government of Kazakhstan to the implementation of the gender agenda in the country,” said Elaine Conkievich, Representative of UN Women in Kazakhstan.
UN Women assists UN member states in meeting international standards for gender equality, and collaborates with governments and civil society in the development of laws, policies, programs and services necessary to achieve this aim. The organization’s activities are also aimed at implementing the global 2030 Agenda relating to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the benefit of women and girls, as well as promoting their equal engagement in all aspects of life.
In Kazakhstan, the strategic priorities of UN Women are to facilitate the implementation of the SDGs, policies and standards in the field of gender equality and the empowerment of women; promote leadership and the equal participation of women, including in public administration; provide women with a guaranteed income, decent work and economic independence; and eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls.
